Flexible MiniPCI Express 2-Way Splitter

Flexible MiniPCI Express 2-Way Splitter (Splitter) designed to expand modern motherboard (ATX, mini ATX etc.) with a limited number of PCI Express connectors. It allows connecting up-to two x1 PCI Express expansion boards to the standard motherboard MiniPCI Express connector.

Splitter includes x1 PCI Express adapter board with Flat PCI Express Cable (up-to 2 boards) and MiniPCI Express Interface board.

Each x1 PCI Express adapter board has a standard PCI Express x1 connector for plug-in x1 PCI Express expansion add-in board (downstream). MiniPCI Express Interface board connects to the motherboard MiniPCI Express connector (upstream). Flat PCI Express cable (12 inches) is used for connection between Interface board and adapter board and provides flexible connection between PCI express expansion boards and the motherboard.

The power (12V and 3.3V) for x1 PCI Express expansion add-in board is supplied via female PCI Express connector placed on the PCI Express adapter board. Power for the x1 PCI Express adapter board is supplied via 4 pin "floppy disk" power connector. Depend of the x1 PCI Express adapter board type it can take power from the different sources:

-- from standard ATX power supply (12V and 5V)
-- form external power supply (12V only)

x1 PCI Express Adapter board has mounting holes for it’s mechanical fixation inside the computer chassis (embedded computer) and support tabs for mechanical stabilization of add-in PCI Express expansion board (US Patent 7,255,570).
