AMFELTEC Corporation Launches Expansion Backplane Suite

TORONTO — October 27, 2008 — AMFELTEC Corporation, a leading provider of equipment dedicated to hardware/software development and electronic design manufacturing, has launched a new line of Expansion backplanes that includes a “PCI Expansion Backplane” and a “PCI Express Expansion Backplane”. Both backplanes have four expansion connectors, powered by a standard ATX power supply and connected with the host computer via standard CAT6 cable and PCI express host card.

Expansion backplanes allow users to expand their system by plugging in additional peripheral add-in cards. The AMFELTEC Expansion Backplane Suite introduces a number of additional features over existing expansion systems:

* Hot-swap replacement of add-in cards without powering down host computer
* Power overcurrent protection is separate per each expansion slot
* Easy access to the PCI JTAG signals enables support for plug-in JTAG emulators or AMFELTEC Easy Loader™ for programming/loading CPLD/FPGA or add-in cards during production/development cycle
* Easy access to PCI bus signals
* Mechanical stabilization (US Patent 7,255,570) for add-in PCI express cards in cases where it can not be held by the bracket.

“Our Expansion Backplane Suite has come about from years of engineering and system development experience,” says AMFELTEC Corporation President and CTO Michael Feldman. “In today’s market the number of PCI/PCI express connectors inside the host computer continues to decrease, but modern engineering products dictate the use of a combination of different peripheral interfaces in growing numbers. At the same time most electronic designs use programmable devices FPGAs, CPLDs and FLASHs that have to be programmed. In anticipation of this market trend the AMFELTEC Expansion Backplane Suite was designed to support development of new modern products, and at the same time, support programming/loading programmable devices during production testing or development cycle.”

The PCI/PCI Express Expansion Backplanes are in full production today.
o PCI Expansion Backplane: USD $990
o PCI Express Expansion Backplane: USD $1,200

Standard package for any Expansion Backplane includes: * User manual
* Full schematic
* VHDL source code for on board programmable logic
* Software under Windows, Linux and FreeBSD OS.
